SDC227-Color Blobs

It's time again for the SDC. Arwen is our hostess this week and she would like to see color blobs. 

I used one of Roc's stamps, Ellie and  Dyan's umbrella for this postcard. I used two different stencils. One of raindrops and one of blobs! The blobs are done with Distress Inks and the ones on the bottom are done with Tim Holtz's new Distress Glitter Dust. And believe me when I say that if you think regular glitter is bad in getting everywhere, you ain't seen nothin' til you work with the Glitter Dust! I've got things that aren't supposed to be glittery, glittery!! ;)

 

SDC 206-Under The Sea

Kristen is our hostess this week at SDC 206 and she wanted us to do something "Under The Sea."

I guess I must be getting psychic in my old age because I started this in my small Dylusions journal yesterday thinking I wanted to do something "water-ish." This is what I ended up with!

There is both blue and green Stickles on the pages for some sparkle as well as some on the mermaids. The mermaids are from Viva Las Vegas stamps and everything else is Dyan's.

 

Stampotique Designers Challenge SDC 201

Astrid is our hostess this week for SDC 201  and she wants us to"Give Wings" to whatever stamps we use.

With the monumental Supreme Court ruling this past week on all 50 of the United States having to allow and recognize Gay Marriage, and why can't it just be "marriage", I decided I'd do something to recognize this. 

Working in my small Dyan Reaveley journal, I used Dina Wakley's wonderful Heavy Body Acrylic Paints for my base, then added some stencil work which I highlighted with my White Signo Uniball pen. I made my own wonky houses with some Gelli Prints I had laying around. I used Roc Nicholas' Dog and Stacked Love stamps and added wings to both with her Flying Love stamp. The wings have glitter on them, just because I needed some sparkle somewhere and they are also pop-dotted to give them some dimension. 

 

Compendium of Curiosities III-Distress Watercoloring Part 2

January's not even over and the year is already flying past! Can't believe it's been two weeks since the last CofC challenge!

This time over at Linda's we are watercoloring and you really need to go see what the Curiosity Crew has done with this challenge! Yep! We've gone back to our kindergarten days and are coloring. But with Distress! And you know by now that I can't tell you HOW we do it. You gotta go to Tim's and get your own copy of his fabulous book so you too can do these wonderful techniques! Speaking of Tim, he and Mario have put together a wonderful gift box for one lucky player. And The Funkie Junkie is providing a shopping spree for another lucky player.

I decided to do Valentine's Day with some traditional and non-traditional colors. And with CHA happening last week and all of the Ranger designers in the house at the Convention Center in Aneheim, CA, I decided to pay homage to all with this challenge. So there is a little of Dina, Dyan, Tim and Wendy (in alphabetical order!) on my tag. I used Dyan's Spray Inks for my base. Then I used some Wendy Translucent Embossing Paste thru Tim's Hearts stencil. Dina's Collaged Hearts stamps using the  Distress watercolor technique and a rogue,  Roc Nicholas Stacked Love stamp also done in the Distress watercolor technique. A few Chit-Chat stickers (highlighted with Diamond Stickles!), an enameled tag with remnant rubs (I "borrowed" Candy's technique and scratched away some of the parts of the remnant rubs before I rubbed them on the enameled tag) and some black Fude Ball highlighting around the hearts complete my tag.

12 Tags of 2014-October

Time once again for the 12 Tags of 2014, the October version. Check out Tim's cool tag here.

I had to cheat a bit. I don't have any of the new Spray Distress Stains, so I used Dyan's instead! I think they did a nice job. I went with a "witchy" theme and instead of the bird that she's holding on the stamp, I gave her a pumpkin from my stash. I also used Paula Cheney's idea using some of Tim's Alpha Parts letters and Distress Glitter for the witchy at the bottom. 

12 tags of 2013 October

Seriously, where IS 2013 going in such a hurry? I swear I just posted September's tag and it's time for October's!

Anyway, Tim is using his delicious new Distress Glitter on his October tag. Since I've only got three of the colors, I had to get creative with my selection of images. I have Festive Berries, Peacock Feathers and Antique Linen. So I decided I'd use the birdcage from the Caged Bird die and one of Dyan's skulls from her Pin Up Girl stamp set. The birdcage uses the Antique Linen Distress Glitter and the skull uses Festive Berries and Peacock Feathers. I had a small tag laying on my table and used it for my mop-up and sentiment. I found a couple of pieces of foam candy corn (Tim's FAVORITE!) in my stash and used a bit of Stickles on them for some added bling!

12 Tags of 2012-July

Time once again for Tim's12 Tags of 2012, the July version!

I got to see him demo the brayer technique on Sunday at StampFest Orlando! First time I've gotten to see him demo in person since he doesn't do any demos when he's reaching. Course I could have stood there all day and watched "The Master" at work, but we needed to get home. Vacation was a blast and once I get my gozillion pictures sorted, I'll be doing a post on that!

I used one of Dyan's silhouette stamp retro dress images because I needed a more feminine image to go with the quote I wanted to use, but did the technique as Tim describes in his blog post. I kept my background soft by using Broken China, Victorian Velvet and Dried Marigold Distress Stains. I went around my quote and the dress with my Stablio Black pencil then softened the hard lines a bit with some water.

One of my co-workers is pregnant and having a little girl at the end of the month. Her name will be Eden. So pretty! I decided she needed one of "Sue's World Famous Wall Hangings" to go in her room. Not knowing the colors she was using and wanting it to be a surprise, I used last month's CTMH special cardstock from Dream Pop. Added in some flowers and birds from Dyan Reaveley's How Does Your Garden Grow stamp set colored with Dyan's fabulous Spray Inks. Added a bit of white Signo Uniball white pen highlighting for good measure. I gave the hanging to Jackie today and she fell in love! She said the pinks and greens will match the nursery almost exactly! I think that's pretty cool since I had no idea what colors to use!

Tim's Tattered Floral challenge

Tim offered up a challenge the end of February. And I've mulled over what I was gonna do. Changed my mind eleventy billion times. Been inspired by each and every guest designer/crafty friend of his that he's asked to create something. Hemmed and hawed about what I was gonna do. Then it hit me! I ordered a pair of shoes online and they came with these inserts to keep them from crushing in shipment. Of course I saved them. Of course I did! Not knowing what I would do with them or how long they'd hang around before I either used them or tossed them. And one day I decided, I shall cover them in Tim's tattered flowers! I sprayed the insert using Dyan's Black Marble Spray Ink then oversprayed with Ranger Turquiose Perfect Pearls Mist. I love the look of the black with Turquoise! Then I went to town cutting out flowers. I used some of Tim's Crowded Attic Paper Stash, GrungePaper and GrungeBoard, Claudine Hellmuth's Sticky Back Canvas and old dictionary pages. Then I colored them using Dylusions Ink Sprays, Distress Stains, Distress Inks, Distress Paints, Ranger Paint Dabbers. Basically anything I owned that could make color, I used! Then I used my Kraft Pick on the Sticky Back canvas and tattered the edges tattered florals! I also used Distress Inks on some of the outside edges of the flowers. Once everything was dry, I mixed up all the flowers and put things together. Then I started attaching them to the toe insert using some flower brads that I've had in my hoard stash for.ever.  If you get a chance, you really should head to Tim's blog and see some of the fantasmic creations people have done. It's truly inspiring.

Silhouette Mermaids

Don't fall over from shock! Two posts in the same week from me is hard to believe lately.

I got all 6 of Dyan's new Spray Inks and her new Ocean Backgrounds and Under The Sea stamp sets last month when Whim So Doodle got them in. And when I was there last month for Dina's class, I got HER silhouette masks. I combined the two since Dina and Dyan love each other so much and played in my Dyan Journal. I love the vibrancy of Dyan's new inks. So lush! The White Linen ink is how I achieved the look on the silhouettes. And the stamps are pretty fun to play with as well. I decided to turn the silhouette lady with legs into a mermaid! There's also lots of Signo Uniball White pen work around all of the sea creatures and stencils.

Ranger Contest

There is a Contest going on thru the 25th over on the Ranger blog. And of course I had to try my hand at it! The challenge is to use Ranger products in Valentines Day colors. And while my tags aren't Valentines, I do have a couple of co-workers having birthdays this month so I used the colors and opportunity to make a birthday tag for each of them.

I started with Tim's new Distress Paints in Fired Brick and Spun Sugar on the tag and misted pretty heavily with water to get the paints to move around. Then I dried the tags and used one of Dina's stencils with Picket Fence Distress Paint and one of Dyan's stencils with Barn Door Distress Stain. Added a bit of black to the tag with a spray ink top smooshed into some of Dyan's Black Marble Spray Ink. I then used one of Tim's new Mini Blueprint Stamps  on watercolor paper and used my Distress Markers to color everything but the flame and that is Stickles for that bit of bling! I used Fired Brick and Black Soot Distress Paints to paint the numbers with and left a bit of the silver showing on each. The 17 and 26 are the dates of the two girls birthdays. I used Tim's idea for using a piece of Tissue Tape folded in half and crumpled to make my "ribbon" with.

Distress? Not Really!

Time for Challenge 31 at Linda's and this week it's all about Ink Palette-Distress. And while it may sound Distressing, it's really more about using Tim's guidelines in Compendium of Curiosities II about using your Distress Stains in a whole new way!! To learn more, you have to buy the book. And really, after all this time, why don't you already own it?!

Every year for Christmas, I make both of my Favorite sisters and mom cards that they can give to friends and family thru the year. Normally by this time of year, I am l.o.n.g. done with them, but this year due to first procrastination on my part and then getting a job at Whole Foods Market, I've not made the first card for any of them! Good thing Favorite Jan and mom said they don't need any this year. So this makes one down and a dozen or so to go for Favorite Kathy!

I started with one of Roc Nicholas' funky, quirky animal images and used Tim's techinque as described on page 51 to color it. Then I used Dyan's Spray Inks to color my background. Then I sprayed water thru a couple of different stencils and finally inked the edges in Gathered Twigs Distress Ink.

What an inky good day it was! We all started with exactly the same class kit and every one ended up so vastly different! This is gonna be another heavy picture post, so lets just get started!

 Somebody's got inky flingers! And they only get worse! A true Badge of Honor for me! Most of what was on my hands came off when I washed my hair last night. But the stuff under my nails and around my cuticles will be there for a while.

Kraft Resist cardstock used as a mop up page cleaning inks off my Kraft Sheet. I wasn't real happy with it at first because it didn't completely cover all the brown cardstock. But it's grown on me and I really love it!

All of the pages will have tags and other ephemera on them. There will be lots of space to journal or just leave it blank. Whatever suits my fancy!

Dyan is coming back to teach again at the Doodle. And I will be there!
