By The Sea

John and I have friends getting married next month. They both love the beach. So much so that they are getting married ON Clearwater Beach! So I thought it was appropriate that their wedding gift from us have a beach theme.

I started with one of Tim Holtz's Mini Configurations Books and used Distress Paint Salty Ocean to paint all of the edges. Once dry, I came back in with some Ground Espresso Distress Ink and aged here and there to make it look a little more worn. I used an old Graphic45 paper line called By The Sea and added some raffia to the covers and cut out some of the stamps from the line and pop-dotted them for dimension on the front cover. The happy couple's initials are K and J, so I used Tim's wooden alphabet and pounced Salty Ocean Distress Paint on them and once dry, I lightly sanded to age them a bit. They are getting married on October 15, so I found a 10 and a 15 and did the same with them as with the letters. I found L O V E in my letter dice and applied a bit of Salty Ocean Paint to them as well. I had bought the sailboat and flip flops at a craft show that I went to a while ago and I used some LuminArt Silks on them. I used a corked vial and added some Distress Glitter to it. A word tag, Destiny since K says she was destined to meet J! And finally three hearts with a bit of Mushroom Alcohol Ink to age them a bit.

Compendium of Curiosities 3-Day 6 The Wrap Up

A fabulous week of knowledge being passed on to eager students by Tim was wrapped up with a challenge. For us to take what we had learned in CofC1, CofC2 and CofC3 and use something other than paper to make something. I knew immediately what I wanted to do! It's August and it's time for me to get started on Christmas! So, my first Christmas project is DONE! I am painty, inky, alcoholy, and sticky from glue, but boy am I happy!!

Compendium of Curiosities 3- Day 4

Aaaand I'm STILL behind! But I'm closing in! Day 4 was FUN! We learned all about what Distress Crayons do. And that's EVERYTHING!! And that's all I can tell you! If you haven't tried them, you need to. They might be my favorite Distress product so far.

Enough talk! Let's see some tags!

Compendium of Curiosities 3- Day 3

Woo Hoo! Now I will only be a day behind! I prepped all of these earlier today since they all had wet elements that needed to dry. Just finished them up. So hopefully I can get caught up tomorrow!

Distress Layered Collage. This is very much like the class that Donna and I took with Tim and Mario at Whim So Doodle back in March, just on a smaller scale.
 Texture Paste Coloring.
Texture Paste Embossing. This one is COOL!!
Texture Paste Resist. This is my favorite out of this bunch.
 Distress Grit Paste Grunge.

Compendium of Curiosities 3-Day 2

I am behind. There. I said it! Oh well, if I catch up, okay. And if I don't that's ok too! I will soldier on!

Day two was so much fun! I have ink all over my fingers, under my nails and I don't care!

Here's some pretty tags to look at!

Distress Paint Resist. LOVE this technique!
Distress Paint Lifting. I originally did this technique in a Dina Wakely class and Tim "borrowed" it. It was cool to revisit it.
Distress Stain Rub Resist. This too is a favorite!
Distress Luminous Mica. I don't know if you can see the shimmer, but it's there! You'll just have to trust me!
Distress Marker Spritzed Watercolor. This one is done on dry paper.
The same technique, but done on wet paper.

Compendium of Curiosities 3-Day One

Yesterday was Day 1 of CofC3. I watched all of the videos then LIFE got in my way. So I was up and at 'em first thing this morning and got all five of my tags done. As in years past, I can't tell you HOW the techniques are done. You had to have done CofC One and Two in order to take part 3 and the class is a very affordable $25 and just like with the first two, you have lifetime access to the classes. You can go here to sign up!

 Distress DIY Hombre
Distress Highlight Stamping (this is one of my favorites!)
 Distress Off-Set Stamping
 Distress Washed Watercolor
 Distress Micro-Glaze Resist

CofC3-Week 7 Alcohol Inks

Our homework for week 7 was to work with Alcohol Inks. I had bought some of Tim's new Yupo "paper" the last time I was at Whim So Doodle and had not had an opportunity to use it. Paper is not a correct term either. It's more like plastic, and the alcohol inks take to it like a fish to water! I really like it. Even better than the glossy cardstock that we used to use!

Of course I can't tell you how I did the technique. You have to take the classes to learn that, and they are well worth the cost. I used one of Tim's newer stamp sets called Lady Rose.

CofC2-Week 6

For week 6, our homework was to use Layering Stencils. I LOVE my layering stencils! I think I use at least one on every project I do.

For this tag, there are four different stencils. Bricked, Wildflowers, Speckles and Honeycomb. The dragonfly is from the stamp set that I won a couple of months ago on Tim's blog for my tag of the month. I added a bit of Diamond Stickles on the wings and a Chit Chat sticker to complete this tag.
