Compendium of Curiosities 3-Day 6 The Wrap Up

A fabulous week of knowledge being passed on to eager students by Tim was wrapped up with a challenge. For us to take what we had learned in CofC1, CofC2 and CofC3 and use something other than paper to make something. I knew immediately what I wanted to do! It's August and it's time for me to get started on Christmas! So, my first Christmas project is DONE! I am painty, inky, alcoholy, and sticky from glue, but boy am I happy!!

Compendium of Curiosities 3- Day 5

That sound you hear? It's ME!! Cheering and jumping up and down!! I am CAUGHT UP!!!

Day 5 was all about alcohol inks. I learned all kinds of new things!

Let's see what I came up with today.

Alcohol Ink Stamped Resist. This one *might* be my favorite of this technique. I love the way it looks In Real Life!
Alcohol Ink Texture Resist. LOVE those raised dots!
Alcohol Ink Faded Layers. Another favorite!
 Alcohol Ink Painting.
Alcohol Ink Liquid Landscapes. Another favorite!
 Alcohol Ink Splattered.

Compendium of Curiosities 3- Day 4

Aaaand I'm STILL behind! But I'm closing in! Day 4 was FUN! We learned all about what Distress Crayons do. And that's EVERYTHING!! And that's all I can tell you! If you haven't tried them, you need to. They might be my favorite Distress product so far.

Enough talk! Let's see some tags!

Distress Crayon Smudge. Fun, fun, fun technique!
Distress Crayon Gesso Fresco. Another fun one!
Distress Crayon Textured Resist. Ohhhhh! Ahhhhh! This will be a "go-to" for backgrounds!
Distress Crayon Watercolor Resist. LOVE how this one turned out. Might be my favorite of the day!
Distress Crayon Blended Background. Or THIS might be my favorite! So easy and so cool!
Distress Crayon Layered Collage. Or THIS one might be my favorite!

Like I said, the Distress Crayons might just be my favorite Distress product yet. Soooooooooo cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Compendium of Curiosities 3- Day 3

Woo Hoo! Now I will only be a day behind! I prepped all of these earlier today since they all had wet elements that needed to dry. Just finished them up. So hopefully I can get caught up tomorrow!

Distress Layered Collage. This is very much like the class that Donna and I took with Tim and Mario at Whim So Doodle back in March, just on a smaller scale.
 Texture Paste Coloring.
Texture Paste Embossing. This one is COOL!!
Texture Paste Resist. This is my favorite out of this bunch.
 Distress Grit Paste Grunge.

Compendium of Curiosities 3-Day 2

I am behind. There. I said it! Oh well, if I catch up, okay. And if I don't that's ok too! I will soldier on!

Day two was so much fun! I have ink all over my fingers, under my nails and I don't care!

Here's some pretty tags to look at!

Distress Paint Resist. LOVE this technique!
Distress Paint Lifting. I originally did this technique in a Dina Wakely class and Tim "borrowed" it. It was cool to revisit it.
Distress Stain Rub Resist. This too is a favorite!
Distress Luminous Mica. I don't know if you can see the shimmer, but it's there! You'll just have to trust me!
Distress Marker Spritzed Watercolor. This one is done on dry paper.
The same technique, but done on wet paper.

Compendium of Curiosities 3-Day One

Yesterday was Day 1 of CofC3. I watched all of the videos then LIFE got in my way. So I was up and at 'em first thing this morning and got all five of my tags done. As in years past, I can't tell you HOW the techniques are done. You had to have done CofC One and Two in order to take part 3 and the class is a very affordable $25 and just like with the first two, you have lifetime access to the classes. You can go here to sign up!

 Distress DIY Hombre
Distress Highlight Stamping (this is one of my favorites!)
 Distress Off-Set Stamping
 Distress Washed Watercolor
 Distress Micro-Glaze Resist

CofC3-Week 7 Alcohol Inks

Our homework for week 7 was to work with Alcohol Inks. I had bought some of Tim's new Yupo "paper" the last time I was at Whim So Doodle and had not had an opportunity to use it. Paper is not a correct term either. It's more like plastic, and the alcohol inks take to it like a fish to water! I really like it. Even better than the glossy cardstock that we used to use!

Of course I can't tell you how I did the technique. You have to take the classes to learn that, and they are well worth the cost. I used one of Tim's newer stamp sets called Lady Rose.

CofC2-Week 6

For week 6, our homework was to use Layering Stencils. I LOVE my layering stencils! I think I use at least one on every project I do.

For this tag, there are four different stencils. Bricked, Wildflowers, Speckles and Honeycomb. The dragonfly is from the stamp set that I won a couple of months ago on Tim's blog for my tag of the month. I added a bit of Diamond Stickles on the wings and a Chit Chat sticker to complete this tag.

CofC week 4 challenge

For week 4, Tim assigned homework to the class and we were to use Archival Ink on our project. Of course I can't tell you HOW I did it, but I used Archival Inks on Specialty Stamping Paper. It is "coated" and the Archival ink will not soak in like it would on plain cardstock. (Don't look too closely at the flying upside down birds! Whoops!)

Compendium of Curiosities Week 3 challenge

Tim challenged us this week to use Distress Stains and Perfect Pearls. Such fun!

I chose Weathered Wood, Scattered Straw and Pumice Stone as I wanted my background to be on the lighter side. I needed a Thank You card, so that was where my mind was taking me this morning. I used The beautiful Flower Garden stamp set and Grape Fizz, Forever Red, Forever Violet and Forever Green Perfect Pearls. Simple Sayings was my choice for the sentiment and a token completed this tag.

Compendium of Curiosities III-Distress Watercoloring Part 2

January's not even over and the year is already flying past! Can't believe it's been two weeks since the last CofC challenge!

This time over at Linda's we are watercoloring and you really need to go see what the Curiosity Crew has done with this challenge! Yep! We've gone back to our kindergarten days and are coloring. But with Distress! And you know by now that I can't tell you HOW we do it. You gotta go to Tim's and get your own copy of his fabulous book so you too can do these wonderful techniques! Speaking of Tim, he and Mario have put together a wonderful gift box for one lucky player. And The Funkie Junkie is providing a shopping spree for another lucky player.

I decided to do Valentine's Day with some traditional and non-traditional colors. And with CHA happening last week and all of the Ranger designers in the house at the Convention Center in Aneheim, CA, I decided to pay homage to all with this challenge. So there is a little of Dina, Dyan, Tim and Wendy (in alphabetical order!) on my tag. I used Dyan's Spray Inks for my base. Then I used some Wendy Translucent Embossing Paste thru Tim's Hearts stencil. Dina's Collaged Hearts stamps using the  Distress watercolor technique and a rogue,  Roc Nicholas Stacked Love stamp also done in the Distress watercolor technique. A few Chit-Chat stickers (highlighted with Diamond Stickles!), an enameled tag with remnant rubs (I "borrowed" Candy's technique and scratched away some of the parts of the remnant rubs before I rubbed them on the enameled tag) and some black Fude Ball highlighting around the hearts complete my tag.

Compendium of Curiosities Challenge-Frayed Fabric

It is time once again for the Compendium of Curiosities Challenge over on Linda's blog.  We are, as always, working out of the book by Tim Holtz and you can order one directly from him!  Tim and Mario are providing one lucky player with a fantasmic collection of goodies. And in addition, another lucky player will receive a shopping spree courtesy of The Inspiration Emporium. This challenge is Frayed Fabric and can be found on page 66 of Tim's book.

I decided to take my rather extensive collection of Tim's fabrics and cover a canvas tote that I can use to take to classes I take at the wonderful Whim So Doodle in St. Pete, Florida. Since it's canvas, I don't have to worry about scissors poking thru and I can fit lots of goodies in the outside pockets and also inside.

As you can see, I've filled it with Tim's products in the hopes that he and Mario will come back to St Pete to Whim So Doodle in 2015 to teach again!

(The fabric on the end panels is NOT Tim's! I found it on clearance at Hobby Lobby and it was so cute, I had to have some. So I included it on my tote because it makes me smile)     :)
