Only one tag left in the 12 tags of 2012. It's been a fun year and already I'm wondering what Tim's got up his sleeve for 2013!
You can see Tim's tag here. I used one of Tim and Mario III's collaboration Autumn Blueprint stamps for my image. The tag is colored with Distress Stains and Distress Inks. I had some leftover branches and a couple of leaves from a previous project on my scrap table, so I put them to use on this tag. I also used my favorite chicken wire stamp and had to add some white pen doodling as well!
This caged bird is fixing to break free! Tim has another wonderful post for the 12 Tags of 2012. This one uses his new Distress Stickles DRY Glitter. Yes, Dry! So you can use your alcohol inks and dye it any color you want. It's got small, medium and large pieces of glitter so you get a beautiful effect with whatever you put it on.
I decided that my bird was going to be breaking free from the bonds of it's cage, so it's head, wing and tail have already emerged from the cage and soon it will be free to soar to new heights.
Which is something I'm getting ready to do soon. After 8 years of being home with a few medical setbacks and then the tanked economy, I was recently hired at a new Whole Foods that will be opening on Nov 1 in north Tampa. I will be the melon bar/salad girl. I have orientation next week and hopefully then will find out what my schedule will be for the next few weeks. I'm excited to be rejoining the workforce and Whole Foods looks to be a very forward-thinking corporation. I am looking very forward to spreading my wings and soaring along with my bird.
Sept means it's time for a new tag in Tim's 12 tags of 2012. Can't believe we've only got 3 more tags and 2012 will be over!
Of course, I had to put the Sue Spin on the tag! Can't copy The Man exactly. He's the one who first gave me "permission" to march to the beat of my own drummer. I found it so refreshing after taking classes from other designers who wanted you to do the project just. like. theirs. Why on Earth would you want to have people copy YOUR work exactly? I never understood that. And the very first class I ever took from t!m...ohhh...8 or 10 years ago, he told the entire class that he didn't want to see cookie cutter projects that looked just like his. Do your own thing. Do what makes you feel good. He's had me from that moment! But anyway!!
I used the foil sheets cut randomly and applied randomly to my tag. Then used the alcohol inks to distress. I've been in a decidedly Halloween creative mood here lately, so that is the direction I went in. Used one of Tim's GrungeBoard birds and used Enamel Accents to make it a crow (with a diamond eye!) Then used a couple of his metal numbers and painted them day-glow icky green as my dad used to call it! As I was looking for the bird, the arrow fell out of my GrungeBoard stash so I took that to mean it wanted a place on the tag, so it got a coating of silver paint dabber then once dry, it and the numbers got a dry brushing of black acrylic paint to grunge them up a bit. The spider is from my stash as are the two "apothecary" tags.
Or maybe that should be Duo challenge! t!m posted his August tag the other day and Linda posted Challenge 16 for CofCII yesterday, so I am being thrifty and combining challenges! Somehow, I don't think either will mind. t!m used one of his new silhouette images to make his tag and since I don't have any of them, I improvised with a "silhouette looking" snowman Christmas stamp, which is also covered in Distress Rock Candy. The challenge at Linda's is to use the Perfect Pearls Technique found on page 54 of the book. I *think* you can see that once I embossed my tag and colored it using a mixture of Sailboat Blue and Cloudy Blue Paint Dabbers, I then used the Perfect Pearls technique over it. All of the other embellies on the tag are from my stash. I've got loads of Christmas stuff!
You had to know t!m would go patriotic for the July 12 tags of 2012! Had to! And he did not disappoint! Here's his fabulous take on this month's technique.
I find it very strange that I do not have any reds in alcohol ink. Or Paint Daubbers for that matter. Something I need to remedy! So I used Stream and Denim along with Picket Fence Mixative on my tag and distressed around the edge using Fired Brick Distress Ink. The stars, postage cancellation and United States Of America stamps are all from the (discontinued) CTMH Vintage USA set. I used the 4 from t!m's mini numerals and dipped it in Blue Pearl embossing powder and heat set it. The blue shimmer is much better in person!
It's time for the 12 tags of 2012, the June edition, over on t!m's blog. This month it's all about colorizing a black and white photo with Distress Inks and nibs. I had some vintage-y looking images that I got from Red Lead so I decided to use them. The ladies in their high necked, long dresses remind me of some early pictures of my ancestors when they first came to Florida to settle this mosquito infested land! I can't imagine having to wear all of those clothes with no air conditioning!
I used the delicious pallete of Spring Limited Edition Distress Inks to color the blouses and Rusty Hinge to color the drapes. t!m used Antique Linen to color the bulk of his photo with, but since I don't have Antique Linen, I used Milled Lavender instead and I kinda like the look. The "diamond" bauble is one from my stash that was in with the buttons that I got from my mom's friend Ruth.

I decided to use butterflies instead of the flowers that he used dipped in UTEE. I cut the gears out of GrungePaper and inked them with Rusty Hinge and Broken China Distress Inks. The butterflies were sprayed with Dyan's Spray Inks in Vivid Turquoise, Lemon Zest and Bubblegum Pink. I used CTMH BItty Alphabet and stamped the "Life is fragile Handle with care" sentiment.
T!m's got a cool new technique for the March tag! Check it out t!m's March tag. In staying with the Spring theme, but going away from butterflies, I decided to use both t!m AND Dyan images and do another page in my Art Journal. So for
t!m's side I used Umbrella Man.Cut him out and since I don't have any of the Ranger sticky tape, I used the red stuff, not knowing if it would work for this technique or not. And it DID! I used regular black embossing powder to do in between my paper pieces. And it worked too! I used stormy skies and broken china Distress Stains for the "sky" and wild honey and vintage photo for the "ground". Once dry, I flicked it with water and used a CTMH rain stamp, then came back in with Diamond Stickles on the rain. Used a crackle stamp on the ground. Colored my seam binding with dried marigold and spun sugar Distress Inks and left it all wadded up and dried it with my heat gun to keep the wrinkled look. Used the gears die to cut the large gears then found a flower and leaf in my stash and used Paint Dabbers to paint them then sanded off the high spots. I printed the quote from my printer and distressed and cut out each individual word.
For the Dyan side, I used one of the faces, legs and arm from Travelling Travis and a piece of scrap material for her "dress". Used a CTMH stamp set for the umbrella. Really liked my brainstorm of an idea to use the Liquid Enamel and Alcohol Inks for the rain boots, so this time the color is Denim. The rest of the image was colored using PrismaColor pencils, odorless mineral spirits and a stub. Found another set of flowers in my stash, so painted them with Paint Dabbers as well and sanded the high spots on them. The "fragile" quote is also from my stash.
